Are today's students studying enough arts and science to design the clothes of tomorrow? Are we all going to have to become nudists?

Are today's students studying enough arts, math and science to design the clothes of tomorrow? Are we all going to have to become nudists?

Clothing, shoes and accessories all have an underlying structure and all of the components have to be assembled in a certain order.  Without math skills, how does one figure out how much fabric goes into a suit jacket?  Without an arts background, how can a designer come up with something new?

Mae Jemison is an art collector, and a dancer.  And, by the way, she's also a Ph.D., a scientist and an astronaut.  Thank goodness NASA has enough American scientists with enough artistic skills to develop functional spacecraft and space clothing. And thank goodness Mae Jemison received enough science and art instruction so that she could conduct experiments and fly into space for NASA.

But what about the future?

True Style = the courage of your convictions? Perhaps.

Slightly off the beaten track is the private gallery Sammlung Goetz in Oberföhringer Strasse, Munich, Germany. Situated in park-like premises, the gallery sits in harmony with surrounding birch trees and conifers. Designed by the Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron, it is home to collector Ingvild Goetz's eclectic collection of paintings, photography and video projections by artists like Cy Twombly, Bruce Nauman and Nan Goldin. Journalist Trisha Andres met up with Dr Stephan Urbaschek, Sammlung Goetz's Head of Exhibitions and Media Art to talk art and architecture. Sitting on the ground floor of the stunning building was a treat as we watched from the glazed windows, snow blanketing the permanent installations.

Recycling Shoes as Hair Accessories

Have you ever lost just one shoe? Did your dog eat one of your shoes and you just can't bear to part with the other one? Well, don't despair, wear! Yes, you read that correctly...models on the Paris runways are doing it so why don't we? Maybe if you wear a shoe on your head it's easier for Prince Charming to find you after the dance party! And yes, this post is recycled, too.
