What's In Fashion in Japan? Meritocracy for Chihuahuas on the Japanese Police Force!

Ralph, the Wonderdog, waiting for food particles to drop from the table he's guarding.

The top news story from Japan is that a Chihuahua named "Momo" (which translates to "Peach") will soon be joining the Police Force Search and Rescue Team.  Momo, a proud, seven-pound spitfire recently competed against German Shepherds, Golden Retrievers and other behemoth breeds and aced the part where the dogs sniff an item of apparel and then track down the person associated with it.
Momo's owner thinks the Chihuahua's small size will be an advantage in police work as it is often difficult for big-ass dogs to locate people in tight places such as after an earthquake disaster.

Waiting For The Other Shoe to Drop!!!

TwinSpeak: Zaha Hadid, architect and designer extraordinaire, has designed this "Roman Gladiator meets 21st century" shoe/sandal for Lacoste. We love Zaha and her vision and style. According to Lola, (top photo), Zaha is welcome to visit Chihuahua Heaven anytime. Yes, we issue one-day passes up here for Human People.

However, if you only have one shoe, you can always wear it on your head and say you're from France. See our blog post of August 1, 2009 for more information.

You Say Tomatoes, I Say Tomatoes

The legendary Diane von Furstenberg (pictured above with the legendary Barbara Glass) was asked about what she admires most about Michelle Obama’s contributions as First Lady and she cited the White House vegetable garden. Is DVF a vegetarian? Just asking. You may remember that the President said they’d have to watch out and make sure Bo, the First Dog, didn’t eat the tomatoes. Phoebe’s dog, Ralph Waldo (a.k.a. “King of all Dogs” Ralph), was (R.I.P.) a tomato-eating Chihuahua. In Chicago. Where tomato-growing season coincides with Cubs season.

Train Men Like Dogs! We Mean That In A Good Way!

Twin Speak: The Shedd Aquarium in Chicago came up with a program to demonstrate how training porpoises is based upon the same principles as training dogs. They did this to attract visitors while the dolphin exhibit was closed for renovation. The dog act might stay around because it is so popular. Who knew? Well, maybe Barbara (in the red dress) and Lola (pictured above in glasses). And yes, those are real fish swimming around over Lola's head.
